    Homebridge/HAI/UPB

Just a quick update. I ended up using OpenHAB (1.9) as a shim between HomeKit and Homebridge. As somebody once said, the surprising part wasn't that it works badly but that it works at all. There were some minor issues along the way, e.g. dimming broke with iOS 10 so all my dimmers had to...

Haiku Haiku/Space seem dead - what are you migrating to?

There are lots of tutorials floating around for both Homebridge and OpenHAB 1.x. However, every platform is a bit different so it tends to require a bit of head-scratching, trial-and-error, and looking at examples to get working.  I used an OS X virtual machine for Homebridge and another for...

Experiences with UPB (powerline control), & possible other options

If you are worried about it, install an SA switch on the old wiring across the legs and see if it works. Lots of times, technical improvements are only improvements in theory or in a few edge cases. I replaced an SA switch with a PCS switch to cure an issue with low current draw by LED lights...

Appreciate your input as I make my hardware selections

Whoops. My mistake. I thought they had pulled it.

Experiences with UPB (powerline control), & possible other options

I've had 7 SAI switches and 1 HAI switch installed for many years. No reliability problems once an SAI passive coupler was installed. One switch failure over about 10 years. Never had a switch jam and never have to retry to get the switch to work. House was built in 2002. Lots of noise across...

Haiku Haiku/Space seem dead - what are you migrating to?

As in ugly? I largely agree but it gets the job done for me. I like the client choices that come with HomeKit but it definitely lacks the power and sophistication of the solutions most people are looking for here.

Appreciate your input as I make my hardware selections

Space isn't an option anymore for iPhone. OpenHAB is the best potion I've come up with for Omni+iOS (although the lack of an active developer for the HAI binding is a concern) but I'm sure there are other options as well.

Haiku Haiku/Space seem dead - what are you migrating to?

OpenHAB. I use it with HomeKit via Homebridge but the OpenHAB iOS client works OK as well. Although all I use with my Omni is dry contacts and UPB so your mileage may vary.

    Haiku What happened to Haiku?

One option would be to install OpenHAB 1.x and use it for push notifications. There's an HAI/Omnilink plug-in for it that I've been successfully using for a few weeks and my.openhab.org can be used for push notifications. I could quickly list a dozen reasons why you might not want to use it...

    Haiku What happened to Haiku?

How big is the market opportunity? How many Omni controllers are installed in homes that are Mac/iOS? What level of annual sales are required for it to be worthwhile to a company? To a solo developer? Apple App Store economics largely suck for these kinds of products since there's no possibility...

    Haiku What happened to Haiku?

Been through this before with Elve which ended up being orphaned so I'm working on the assumption it's time to start thinking about alternatives. I'm experimenting with using HomeKit connecting to my Omni via homebridge & HaikuHelper. Works well enough to at least develop a practical...

    Homebridge/HAI/UPB

Just to learn a little more about HomeKit,, I installed homebridge-http and configured a few of my lights into it. HomeKit apps talk to HaikuHelper via http and HH talks to the Omni. It actually works OK as a proof of concept. I'm going to see if I can do something similar for Smartthings...

    Homebridge/HAI/UPB

The programming part is the kicker. I've got a bit of programming experience but it's mostly pre-web so things are JSON, JavaScript, OATH, and GitHub are pretty mysterious technologies to me.   If I thought there were good alternatives to HAI/UPB, I'm not so invested that I couldn't jump but...

    Homebridge/HAI/UPB

Anybody done anything with Homebridge? It's an open source program for connecting non-HomeKit devices to HomeKit. I've played around a bit and connected HomeKit to Smarthings but I'm really more interested in connecting either to an Omni (directly over Ethernet or via HaikuHelper) or my UPB...

    Haiku Space and iBeacons

I forgot to mention that I'm running the iOS 9 public beta. That might or might not be related to the missing iBeacon Region option. It's been very solid so sometimes I forget I'm running it.

    Haiku Space and iBeacons

The existing iBeacon Region was created in an earlier version of Space. The iBeacons were easy to configure to a single UUID (identical major index, sequentially increasing minor index) using either Locate (Radius) or RadBeacon. I originally started with just a single Radius Beacon but added two...

    Haiku Space and iBeacons

In 1.11, the option to add a Smart Trigger using an iBeacon Region is gone. Instead there are just two choices that say "Add Geographical Region". An existing iBeacon Region trigger works so maybe it's just the code to add new one. IBeacon smart triggers still don't work well. I can be sitting...

    Haiku HomeKit

Lupinglade,   I know you are busy working away on getting Space updated and Space Server released, but I was wondering if there's anything you can say about Space/Space Server and HomeKit. I've only read enough to be dangerous but it looks like a bridge device would be needed for the integration...

    Haiku Multiple iBeacons

I installed two more beacons and things are a bit better but I still get occurances where I'll wander past one of the beacons and Space will send a notification as if I'd exited/entered the house. A bigger issue is that even when background processing is enabled for Space, Smart Triggers appear...

    Haiku Multiple iBeacons

I've noticed that it's not just range. Sometimes I'll be sitting close to the iBeacon and Locate (Radius Networks app) will pop up an "Entered Region" message even though I have not moved. As I understand it, the beacon is sending constantly and the app (Space or Locate) wakes up when iOS...
