hue is available exclusively from Apple

This is unfortunate, though.

FYI, one of our users has already built an Indigo plugin for it. It's alpha but he seems to be making very good progress. Their API isn't public yet so he's figuring it out by watching the traffic between the iOS app and the hub.

Oh, wait, Macs are just toys and can't do any real work. Never mind... :p

Say goodbye to that Kickstarter project.

The Kickstarter project is actually doing fine. I have an order for one of those and I get lots of updates from them. Just like everything, its good to have lots of choices, so its not much of an either/or. You may want to wait before you buy the Philips Hue. At the very least, the LIFX bulb will be brighter than the Philips one.

Yeah I was just kidding about the LIFX. Although I see now they are putting a wifi chipset in every bulb. Frankly I'd rather pay a few dollars less per bulb than not have to worry about which one is the master. But perhaps it is a wash in production line savings & consolidated software. 600 lumens seems ok to me, as I am using some 350 lumen PAR20 and they are reasonably bright. Anyway, the more the merrier and lets hope that competition and wider distribution drives the prices down.

I like it... I just can't wait until they figure out a solution to the traditional light switch. With a mechanical on/off switch, if it's off, it doesn't matter what your "app" tells the lights to do!
