    Is Charmed Quark gone?

I emailed Mark to see if anyone had archived the forums before they were shut down...but crickets...

That link has expired...can I get a new one if this is really happening? Thanks

Insteon dimmer switch 2477D not working.

Are you sure that this isn't the end point of a three-way circuit?   If so, two of the wires are travelers & will alternate which one is hot when the other switch in the three-way circuit is flipped.   Be careful.

    Where to buy?

Thanks for the info...I do prefer to buy locally if the prices are in the ballpark.

    Where to buy?

This may or may not be an allowable topic, but I was wondering where others have purchased their Elk systems.   I don't envision that I need a lot of handholding with the install...and would be looking for value in the pricing.

    Rethinking my Home solutions....

After ~15 years, I think it's time to revisit my HA needs and wanted to get some thoughts with users that have experience in other systems/software packages.   I have mostly been a lighting/HVAC guy because we mostly lived away from our main home & wanted it to look "lived in" and be able to...

Question about Elk & RCS Serial Thermostat

The thermostat does report when it enters a heating/cooling mode & fan state.  I would have to pull out the reference guide (It's in the serial protocol description).  Homeseer 2 and earlier had event triggers that used those state changes.

Question about Elk & RCS Serial Thermostat

I know that Dean had pondered changing his business model before, but I wasn't at a place to invest the time relearning a new automation model/language.  This is intriguing...and I assume that it integrates well with the ELK?

Question about Elk & RCS Serial Thermostat

Thanks for the info.   I actually use the operating mode to kick on some booster fans for several ducts.  It has been very reliable instead of relying on a sail switch.   Couple that with our need for a new alarm system & Elk looks like a good option.

Question about Elk & RCS Serial Thermostat

Does the Elk software allow you to create events based upon the current operating mode reported by the thermostat?   In my Homeseer 2 setup, the thermostat would report that it was in stage 1 (or whatever) stage heat as an operating mode.  I used that information to trigger other events.  Since...

    Network HD PVR...

Sage doesn't support it directly, but it will work for channels that are flagged "copy-freely" via a (free) 3rd-party progam (SageDCT). With my Cable service, I can get just about everything...except HBO, SHO....I use MCE to record/watch those programs.

HDHomeRun PRIME just became available for pre-order!

Reading on the SAge forums, I was under the impression that it would work with SageMCTuner.... http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50420&highlight=hdhomerun+prime

    Improve SageTv uptime

Wow...It sounds like you may have a lot going on. Some lessons I've learned: 1. Make sure all the software on the extenders is current. I typically stick with the beta software and it seems to solve any issues that arise. 2. Windows updates seemed to cause problems with my setup. It would...

Universal Devices raffling off (3) ISY-26 automation controllers for Insteon!

While away: I use lighting to give our home a "lived-in" look while away. Instead of using timers...Timers would shift with the frequent power outages and would have to be programmed for a longer period than required during shorter periods of darkness. I use RCS thermostats to remotely...

    SH and Insteon

I've been a wallflower on the Insteon discussion....I like the concept and was an early adopter. I did read the postings about Insteon issues w/concern, but had not seen the same issues of switch failure because of my usage pattern. However, I was flabbergasted at the SH response to my email...

    WSV for a well?

Well...it happened to me. I've spent the last week dealing with a high-pressure water leak at our main (I haven't been there in six months) home. Not sure how long it was going, but it required a lot of cleanup (carpet removal, drywall, insulation, etc.). I believe that we were lucky ( I...

    WSV for a well?

Our permanent home is in Indiana...On a well and I only get back there about 30 days a year. It is unoccupied, and after seeing a neighbors house w/water damage, I decided that it was in my best interest to turn off water when we left our home unoccupied. However, in the winter...we turn our...

    HVAC automation

Remote control of my HVAC has added a level of flexibility and peace-of-mind that well exceeds the cost for the RCS thermostats. Temperature control and automated messaging based on interior temp are huge benefits. We maintain our main house near Chicago while we live/work in various cities...
