Long ago when I needed a lot of serial ports I used a digi. Now I only have one so I'm using a usb-serial dongle. When I need to connect to the PIM from windows, I stop HASS and start ser2net and then connect to over ethernet.

IMO. Netgear is hot trash so I would port forward to the Synology and use that.

The "hang out" was the CQC forums and here AFAIK. I ran CQC for a number of years and migrated to Home Assistant. I even wrote a few integrations (forget what they were called exactly) for CQC.

I'm a believer its best to run everything through a smart hub since it has the most capabilities and possibilities for automation. In your case it sounds like that would be Home Assistant.
