    OUT 1-4? ELM1GOLD

For completeness, from the install manual: Outputs 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 are low current, positive (+) voltage only, for driving LEDs, relays, etc. Outputs 4,5, and 6 ARE NOT available from the main board. They can only be accessed with a data bus Output expander set to...

    Help with DB1HR and Termination

Sounds like more of a keypad config issue than a bus issue. As you discovered, for each additional keypad you need to manually assign the address on the keypad and do an enroll. Copied from KP2 instructions: SETTING THE ADDRESS: From the factory all keypads are set to address 1. Valid keypad...

    inexpensive alarm panel

I would take your M1 and just leave the wiring and maybe even some of the sensors in place. Say the house is "pre-wired for alarm". Unless the person buying your house is tech savvy, they won't know what to do with an M1. And most alarm companies won't deal with an M1. They will gladly...

What are my options for Keypads for an Elk M1?

I used the KP2s with the inwall flush mount box and speaker in the box. It gives a clean look. Its mainly a keypad to turn the alarm on and off. If I want to do something with the system I'll use ElkRP. Heck, the KPAS will turn the alarm on and off and it fits in a 1gang box, but it doesn't...

Elk Output Expander Trouble and Reset

Its 100' or less of cat5 cable connected to a DBH, power injected into the cable after the DBH. If it was a voltage/current problem, I'd expect to see it more often since that relay board gets some use just about every day.

Elk Output Expander Trouble and Reset

Thanks! Never tried just resetting the OE by removing its power. Will try that the next time. I'll look into an external relay to do a reset. Was thinking I could get a DPDT timer relay and kill AC and battery together. This doesn't happen often enough to be a priority, its just a pain when...

Elk Output Expander Trouble and Reset

Occasionally, maybe once a year, lose comms to output expander 2. This expander is in the garage on the longest run. Not really temp related, since it last happened on xmas 2023 and has happened in the summer. But rest assured it always happens when I'm away. Easy solution is to hard...

Advice in Designing new Elk System

All modules need to connect to the data bus, but not necessarily the DBHR. You can daisy chain the modules without getting the DBHR involved, really easy if they are somewhat local to the main board. The bus needs to be terminated at both ends. The DBHR is typically used in existing...

Stopping the Ethernet error message on keypad

You physically removed the M1XEP? Try un-enrolling it using a keypad. "Once an M1XEP has been enrolled, the Control will now begin tracking each response to an “XK” command, and it will display and log an “Ethernet Trouble” message if an “xk” response is not received within 120 seconds of the...

Elk M1 Api to force Alarm

If by API, you mean using the serial/xep interface, you can fault a zone by using the "zt" (zone trigger) command.  Define the zone as needed, water, burglar, etc.  Of course this means you'll need some other device to monitor your sensors, connect to the elk, and send the command.
